HC Deb 10 February 1926 vol 191 cc1062-3W
Mr. HORE-BELISHA

asked the Secretary of State for War what percentage of new recruits for the Army were discharged on account of some physical or medical disability in 1925 within 12 months of their acceptance, and what were the corresponding figures for 1910, 1912 and 1913?

Sir L. WORTHINGTON-EVANS

No figures are available showing the number of recruits discharged for physical or medical disability within 12 months of attestation. The number of such discharges within three months of attestation will be found in the General Annual Reports on the British Army—the figures for the year 1924–25 on page 13 of the Report for that year, and the figures for the years 1909–10, 1911–12 and 1912–13 on page 51 of the Report for the year 1913.

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

asked the Secretary of State for War (1) how many men were accepted in the year 1925 for His Majesty's Army, how many were rejected on account of some physical deficiency, and what were the corresponding percentages of rejections to acceptances in the years 1910, 1911, 1912 and 1923;

(2) what percentage of applicants were rejected for the Army in the years 1910, 1911, 1912, 1913 and 1925, and what the principal physical defects were, giving the proportions to the total number of rejections?

Sir L. WORTHINGTON-EVANS

The figures of acceptances and rejections for the recruiting years 1911–12, 1912–13, 1922–23 and 1924–25 will be found in the table on page 12 of the General Annual Report for 1925, recently presented to Parliament. The corresponding figures for the years 1909–10 and 1910–11 will be found on page 45 of the Report for 1911. Information as to the principal physical defects and their relation to the total number of rejections for the years 1909–10, 1910–11, 1911–12 and 1912–13 is contained in Table III, Section 1, of the Report on the Health of the Army for the year concerned.
