HC Deb 10 February 1926 vol 191 cc1061-2W
Sir R. GOWER

asked the Secretary of State for War whether in inviting tenders for the provision of meat to the Army, it is stipulated that only Empire-produced meat shall be supplied?

Captain KING

It is not stipulated that only Empire-produced meat shall be supplied, but tenderers are required to state the country of origin of the meat which they offer. Since 1st January, 1924, the frozen meat supplied has been entirely of Empire origin except in the case of certain local contracts where requirements are so small that it is not practicable to ascertain the origin of the meat. On the last occasion on which tenders for preserved meat were invited, the whole of the Empire-produced meat of satisfactory quality was accepted.
