HC Deb 10 February 1926 vol 191 c1067W
Mr. AMMON

asked the Minister of Health whether his attention has been called to the case of a young man who was charged with theft at the Lambeth Police Court on 5th January last, and was found to be suffering from the after effects of encephalitis lethargica; and whether, in view of the increase of such cases, he will take steps to consider ways and means of providing adequate treatment and training for the victims of this and other brain troubles?

Sir K. WOOD

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. As regards the second part, the question of the best means of providing for such cases as that mentioned is receiving careful consideration by the departments concerned.

Mr. AMMON

asked the Minister of Health whether the arrangements made between his department, the London County Council, and the Metropolitan Asylums Board for the treatment of encephalitis lethargica cases is for medical care only?

Sir K. WOOD

My Right hon. Friend assumes that the hon. Member is referring to the arrangements made by the Metropolitan Asylums Board for the institutional treatment of children suffering from the mental after-effects of encephalitis lethargica. These arrangements provide for the ordinary hospital accommodation of the patients, and all necessary treatment and medical care.
