§ Mr. MACLEANasked the Secretary for Scotland the number of persons in respect of parish relief in Scotland during 1924 and 1925, respectively?
§ Sir J. GILMOURThe following statement shows the number of poor chargeable to parish councils in Scotland in three days in 1924 and 1925:
§ Sir J. GILMOURThe house in question is a four-apartment one of the "Atholl" type and was erected by the local authority for demonstration purposes. The local authority had a free hand as to the rent to be charged, and I am informed they have fixed it at £40. Three applications have been received for the house at that rent, and these are now under consideration. The rent of £29 for a brick house is for a house of four apartments under the 1919 Act and the financial conditions are not comparable. The difference in rental referred to seems to me to point towards the necessity of reducing the cost of this type of steel house as has been done in the tenders recently submitted.
