HC Deb 09 December 1926 vol 200 cc2307-8W
Mr. D. GRAHAM

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the number and names of the persons holding positions as honorary sheriff-substitutes in the county of Lanark; by whom are they appointed; and what are the qualifications for holding such a position?

Sir J. GILMOUR

I am in course of obtaining the information asked for in the first part of the question, and I shall communicate it to the hon. Member as soon as possible. Honorary sheriff-substitutes are appointed by the sheriff of the sheriffdom under Section 17 of the Sheriff Courts (Scotland) Act, 1907. The sheriff appoints such persons as he thinks proper to hold the office, and no further statutory qualifications are prescribed.
