asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury the number of patronage appointments to the permanent messenger class in the Civil Service by Departments for the periods 1914 to 1918 and 1919 to the latest date available?

Mr. McNEILL,

pursuant to his reply [OFFICIAL REPORT. 28th July, 1926, Col. 2118], supplied the following information showing the number of men certificated for appointment as established messengers in various Departments during 1914–18 inclusive and 1919–25 inclusive:
