§ Mr. A. WILLIAMSasked the Home Secretary whether he is aware of the hardship caused in some cases by the fact 2230W that fully trained and certificated nurses who, whilst serving abroad, were not in a position to know of the conditions attaching to application for registration until after the period of grace had expired, i.e., in July last, and are therefore debarred from the advantages of registration; and whether he is in a position to recommend that, in such cases, their application be reconsidered?
§ Mr. WHEATLEYI am aware that hardship has arisen in the circumstances mentioned by the hon. Member, but only one or two instances of this nature have been reported to the Department. I am not in a position to recommend the reconsideration of such applications since a statutory time limit is fixed by Section 3 of the Nurses Registration Act, 1919, and amending legislation would be required to enable the General Nursing Council to admit them.
