HC Deb 11 March 1924 vol 170 cc2152-3W
Sir W. de FRECE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of Germany's refusal to refund to her own manufacturers the 25 per cent. reduction of the Reparations Levy, he can state the German industries mainly concerned hitherto in the payment of the full 26 per cent.; and whether these are or are not flourishing, both now and relatively, in comparison with the years in which the full levy was operative?

Mr. WEBB

I have been asked to answer this question. All goods first consigned from Germany are liable to the levy under the German Reparation Recovery Act. Statistics of imports from Germany will be found in the answers which I gave to the hon. Members for Ilford (Sir F. Wise) and Moseley (Mr. Hannon) on 4th and 5th March respectively. A review of commercial and industrial conditions in Germany for the month of January will be found on Pages 252–254 of the "Board of Trade Journal" for 21st February. If the hon. Member will specify any German industries about which he would wish for further information I will see how far I am able to supply it.
