§ Sir V. BOWATERasked the Minister of Labour the number of women at present out of employment and the amount of State aid that they are receiving?
§ Miss BONDFIELDThe number of women on the 16th June, 1924, recorded on the registers of Employment Exchanges in Great Britain was 205,200. Of these, about 188,000 had current claims to benefit, the amount of unemployment benefit represented by this number being approximately £85,000 for the week. As the hon. Member is no doubt aware, this benefit is paid out of the Unemployment Fund, to which these women contribute when in work.
