HC Deb 04 June 1924 vol 174 cc1280-1W
Mr. HANNON

asked the Minister of Health how many persons were respectively classified as occupied and unoccupied in England and Wales and Scotland according to the Censuses of 1911 and 1921, showing separately men and women and young persons under the age of 18: and when he expects to publish the complete Census Returns of 1921?

Mr. WHEATLEY

The figures asked for are as follow:

It should be borne in mind that the Census classification relates to persons ordinarily following a gainful occupation, and that the "unoccupied" comprise retired persons, pensioners, school children and others not ordinarily following a gainful occupation. In reply to the last part of the question, I understand that the whole of the Scottish Reports have been published. As regards England and Wales, the complete series of County Reports has been issued; while, of the remaining volumes, some are already in the Press, and it is expected that all, or nearly all, will be published during the current year.
