§ Mr. LAWSONThe number of men employed by contractors in and about the cemeteries in France and Belgium is estimated at 425, but I am unable to say what proportion of these are British. It has been impossible to make the employment of British labour a condition of the contracts. The number directly employed by1098W the Commission is 2,653, practically all British. A few natives are, however, employed in the eastern theatres and in Africa.
