HC Deb 31 July 1924 vol 176 c2258W
Mr. T. THOMSON

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is prepared to make such modifications in the method of estimating the income of old age pensioners as will permit of their actual incomes being taken instead of hypothetical incomes calculated on a 10 per cent. return on part of their savings?

Mr. GRAHAM

I fear I can add nothing to the statement made by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer on this matter during the discussion of the Old Age Pensions Bill, 1924. The method of calculation to which the hon. Member refers is, of course, prescribed by law, and I have no power to alter it.
