HC Deb 27 February 1924 vol 170 c483W
Mr. E. BROWN

asked the Minister of Health if he has any information as to the number of houses erected under the Housing Act of 1933 in areas administered by rural district councils, and the number of certificates issued under that Act for the erection of houses in such areas?

Mr. WHEATLEY

Schemes have been approved by the Minister of Health for the erection of houses in rural districts by rural district councils and by private enterprise providing for 24,526 houses; of these, 3,398 are houses to be built by the rural district councils and 21,128 by private enterprise. Of the 3,398 houses to be built by the local authorities, contracts have already been entered into in respect of 1,200 houses, and 76 of these have been completed. In respect of the 21,128 houses included in private enterprise schemes, certificates have been issued on full approval of plans for 12,352 houses, and of these 977 have been completed.

Mr. BROWN

also asked the Minister of Health the number of houses erected under the post-War Housing Acts in the years 1919, 1920, 1921, and 1922, respectively, in the areas administered by rural district councils?

Mr. WHEATLEY

The numbers of houses erected with State assistance by rural district councils, public utility societies, and private persons in areas administered by rural district councils in the years referred to were as follow:

1919 6
1920 3,851
1921 25,248
1922 20,103
These figures do not include houses erected by urban authorities in rural districts, as to which no statistics are readily available.
