§ Mr. TILLETTasked the Under-Secretary of State for War what steps were taken by the committee entrusted to disburse the 10s. in the £ granted in connection with the failure of MacGrigor's Bank 63W to secure evidence as to the necessitous position of individual depositors; whether they consulted the members of the committee of investigation appointed under the bankruptcy proceedings, who would have been in a position to give information on the subject; and, in view of the fact that needy individual persons will suffer as the result of the failure of the regimental funds, will he reconsider the question, in order to remove any suggestion of distinction having been made between officers and men?
§ Mr. GWYNNEThe question which the committee had to decide as regards individual depositors was not whether they were necessitous, but why their accounts were kept at MacGrigor's Bank. As regards regimental funds, they had to decide whether the loss on accounts so classed involved serious hardships to individuals, whether officers or men. On this point they obtained information direct from those charged with the administration of the funds. The hon. Member will see that no question arises of any such distinction as he suggests.
