§ Mr. ORMSBY-GOREThe salaries and allowances of Government officials in the West African Colonies were raised as from the 1st of January 1920, in view of the increased cost of living. The new salaries are permanent, although lower scales may be fixed for new appointments. But the allowances are liable to revision at any time, and have already in many cases been reduced from the rates approved in 1920.
