HC Deb 02 August 1923 vol 167 cc1740-1W
Captain J. HAY

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury, in view of the fact that the Government has recently conceded the minimum salary of £176 14s. per annum to entrants to the permanent clerical class, Civil Service, whether he will undertake that the rates of pay of temporary clerical officers shall not be further reduced until their representatives shall have had an opportunity of submitting their views?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

A reduction in the rates of temporary graded clerks falls due to be made as from 1st September under the existing cost of living sliding scale. In the meantime, it will be open to the representatives of these clerks to submit any proposal that they may think it right to put forward.

Captain J. HAY

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury, in view of the fact that the Report of the Anderson Committee has not yet been submitted, whether he will undertake that no revision of the rates of pay of the temporary clerical classes shall be made until the Report of the Committee shall have been received by the Government?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

I would refer the hon. and gallant Member to the reply given to-day to a similar question on the subject.
