Mr. T. THOMSONasked the Minister of Health what is the approximate number of slum dwellings and of houses not reasonably fit for human habitation at present in occupation in the whole of England and Wales, based on the returns which he has from certain parts of the country?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINReports received from the Medical Officers of Health of 1,665 local authorities for the year 1921, show that 18,321 houses were reported as unfit for human habitation, and 257,686 houses were found not to be in all respects reasonably fit for habitation. It is not possible to give the number of these houses actually occupied at the time the reports were made.
