HC Deb 09 February 1922 vol 150 cc342-3W
Mr. A. T. DAVIES

asked the President of the Board of Education whether his attention has been drawn to the conflict between certain education committees and the recommendations of the Burnham Committee on Teachers' Salaries; and what action it is proposed to take to settle the differences of view as to the scale under which such teachers shall be paid?

Mr. FISHER

I am aware that some local education authorities wish to obtain the Board's recognition for the payment of their teachers on scales higher than those allocated to them by the Standing Joint Committee. I have accepted the Committee's schedule of allocation as the basis of expenditure which the Board will recognise for grant, and I cannot agree to its revision in a direction which would involve increased expenditure.
