HC Deb 09 February 1922 vol 150 c342W
Major WHELER

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he has noted the recent increase in the price of flour per sack; and whether he can state the causes of such increases of price?

Mr. BALDWIN

I have been asked to reply to this question. My attention has been directed for some time past to the price of flour, and I have noted the recent increases, which appear to be directly traceable to the increased cost of wheat. The price of 46s. per sack for London-made straight-run flour announced on 7th February represents a rise of 3s. on the price current from 12th January to 29th January inclusive. The increased cost of wheat may be illustrated by the quotations of No. 1 Northern Manitoba wheat, the price of which per quarter of 496 lbs. ex-ship London, was 54s. on 11th January, rose to 58s. on 30th January when the first of the advances in the price of flour occurred, and was reported as 59s ed. on 6th February.
