HC Deb 09 February 1922 vol 150 c321W
Mr. MOSLEY

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether, since the passing of the Safeguarding of Industries Act, the French Government has raised the Customs duty on articles imported into France from this country; and, if so, whether he will state the articles upon which, and the amount by which, the duties have been raised?

Mr. BALDWIN

The French Government have made frequent modifications in their Customs tariff, with the ostensible object in most cases of restoring the pre-War relations between the duties on and the value of imported goods. These changes neither began with, nor so far as I am aware were they influenced by, the passage of the Safeguarding of Industries Act. Full details have been published from time to time in "The Board of Trade journal," and I am sending my hon. Friend a number of extracts from that journal which contain particulars of all changes since 19th August last.
