HC Deb 04 April 1922 vol 152 cc2059-60W
Mr. AMMON

asked the Home Secretary if he will state how many officials are engaged upon the work of supervising immigration at each of the authorised ports of entry; the annual cost of this Department; and the amount received in fees?

Mr. SHORTT

The number of officers engaged upon the work of supervising immigration is 138. These officers are distributed, as the conditions and volume of passenger traffic require, among the 18 "approved" ports. The estimated cost of this service (including an estimate for travelling expenses) for the coming year is £74,000. No fees are received on account of this work.
