HC Deb 24 May 1921 vol 142 cc51-2W
Mr. THOMAS-STANFORD

asked the Minister of Health whether, in the event of the Housing Bill becoming law, he will reconsider the present Regulation which restricts the payment of the subsidy of £260 to houses not exceeding in floor-space 1,400 square feet, and will provide that the same subsidy shall be paid for a house of rather larger dimensions, say, 1,600 square feet?

Sir A. MOND

The present limits as to the sizes of houses which may earn subsidies under the Housing (Additional Powers) Act were fixed so as to cover houses suitable for the working classes for which the houses were intended. I do not think it advisable to go beyond the limit of 1,400 square feet.
