HC Deb 04 March 1921 vol 138 c2183W
Mr. T. THOMSON

asked the President of the Board of Education whether he is aware that the Middlesbrough Education Committee came to an arrangement with their teachers, based on the original Burnham Report, providing for the carrying over to be effected in three years, of one half in the first year, and one quarter in each of the following years; and, inasmuch as the teachers understood that the findings of the Burnham Committee would be accepted by the Government, can he see his way to enable the Middlesbrough Education Authority to keep faith with their staff in this matter?

Mr. FISHER

I have not been informed of the particulars of any provisional agreement arrived at between the Local Education Authority of Middlesbrough and the teachers in their employment. My general attitude on the Report of the Burnham Committee is explained in the published correspondence between myself and Lord Burnham, of which I am sending the hon. Member copies.
