HC Deb 03 March 1921 vol 138 c2041W
Mr. CHARLES EDWARDS

asked the Minister of Health whether, in connection with the coming Census, he will arrange with the Ministry of Labour that persons out of employment shall be engaged through the employment exchanges in the same way that extra labour is engaged by the Post Office for the Christmas pressure; and that the managers of the employment exchanges be supplied with a copy of the form to be filled up with the object of explaining the nature of the work to approved candidates for employment?

Dr. ADDISON

I would refer the hon. Member to my reply on the 2nd instant to the hon. Member for Thirsk and Malton (Mr. Turton), of which I will send him a copy. I have discussed the possible use of employment exchanges in connection with recruitment of staff for the Census with the Ministry of Labour, but it appeared that they could not be used with advantage because of the conditions explained in my previous answer which differentiates this case from that of the Post Office Christmas pressure to which the hon. Member refers.
