HC Deb 01 March 1921 vol 138 c1647W
Major GUEST

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of the growing British export trade to Cuba, and of the Cuban Government's proposal to raise the import duty on British goods by 40 per cent, as a protest against the 50 per cent, extra duty on cigars imposed in the last Budget, he will consider cancelling this cigar duty in the interest of British export trade, which is just beginning to compete successfully with United States of America imports, and which the proposed 40 per cent. Cuban duty would absolutely stifle?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I have nothing to add to the reply which I gave to the hon. Member for Wimbledon (Mr. Hood) on the 23rd ultimo.
