HC Deb 20 June 1921 vol 143 c906W
Major PRESCOTT

asked the Minister of Health whether he will give the number of architects originally employed by the Watford Urban District Council in the preparation of lay-out plans for the council's housing scheme; and on what grounds their services were dispensed with and the amount of compensation paid in each case?

Sir A. MOND

The lay-out plans were prepared by one architect. For the house plans a supervising architect and a panel of five architects were employed by the council. The Ministry came to the conclusion, after a certain amount of work had been done, that this arrangement was not going to prove an economical one, and it was discontinued. I have no information of the sums actually paid to the several architects, but I am sending my hon. and gallant Friend a copy of the letter forwarded to the council on the 27th January of last year, setting out the terms on which payments were to be made.
