HC Deb 15 June 1921 vol 143 cc435-6W
Mr. HOGGE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what duties to the public service are performed by the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster; and what remuneration he receives from public funds?

Mr. YOUNG

The duties of the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster are to control the management of the Duchy Estates and Revenues, and also, within the County Palatine of Lancaster, to appoint justices of the peace and county court judges, and to direct the administration of the estates of persons dying intestate and without kin, and to perform various duties which in other counties devolve upon the Lord Chancellor or the Home Secretary. His salary of £2,000 a year is paid from the revenues of the Duchy. He receives no remuneration from the Exchequer.
