HC Deb 17 February 1921 vol 138 c300W
Sir J. D. REES

asked the Prime Minister what action the Government proposes to take on the second Report on motor fuel of the sub-committee of the Standing Committee on the Investigation of Prices?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

I have been asked to reply. The policy of the Government has been to encourage the development of additional sources of supply of motor fuel and to assist, through the Fuel Research Board, research with a view to the production of substitutes on a commercial scale. The Committee in their second Report lay stress upon the importance of action in both these directions. In view of our serious dependence at the present time on foreign sources of supply, it would not be practicable to attempt to control prices and distribution.
