§ Mr. R. YOUNGasked the President of the Board of Education whether any consideration has been given to the effect on the health of young children as the result of the operation of the Daylight Saving Act: whether the earlier hours of attendance at school and the consequently prolonged day reducing their hours of sleep has had any injurious effect; and, if so, what steps does he propose to take in the matter?
§ Mr. FISHERI cannot add anything to the summary contained in Paragraphs 32 to 36 of the Report of the Summer Time Committee, 1917 [Cd. 8487]. I will, however, ask the local education authorities to make arrangements for observing the effect of the Summer Time Act on the health of the school children in their areas this year. But, as the hon. Member is aware, the matter is primarily one of parental supervision.
