§ Mr. HURDasked the Minister of Agriculture whether Canadian fat cattle are 758W now reaching this country at an average of 800 head per week; whether he is aware that 4,570 head have already been booked; for British ports; and what is the freight charge upon these shipments?
§ Mr. PARKERThree consignments of Canadian fat cattle have arrived in this country since the trade was resumed. The first consisted of six cattle included with a consignment of 74 from the United States, and arrived on the 23rd March at Glasgow. Two hundred and fifty-nine cattle arrived at the same port on 4th April, and 150 were landed at Manchester on 8th April. So far as can be ascertained, only 400 more Canadian fat cattle have already been booked for this country, 200 of which are due to sail to-day (11th April) and 200 on the 13th April. The freight charges for cattle from Canada are approximately £10 per head.
