§ Mr. HAYDAYasked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that Gerald Ashton, la, Ben Street, Blackburn, has made application for a grant from the Civil Liabilities Commission to enable him to start in business; that Mr. Ashton's late firm are willing to take him into partnership; and the reason for the grant being refused to this man?
§ Mr. PARKERThe facts as shown in the application and the report upon it1260W which I have received are not entirely as stated in the hon. Member's question. Mr. Ashton has applied for a grant to enable him to purchase shares in a limited company of which he proposes to become an employé if his health permits. The purpose is not within the scope of the Civil Liabilities Scheme. If, however, Mr. Ashton were prevented by his disability from accepting suitable employment an alternative proposal for enabling him to start in a business on his own account would be considered.
