HC Deb 30 April 1920 vol 128 c1592W
Mr. GOULD

asked the President of the Board of Education, if his attention has been called to the practice that students at training colleges, failing in one or more subjects in their examinations, at a subsequent examination are required to pass again the whole series of subjects; and whether, under the circumstances, his Department is prepared to allow candidates failing to pass the majority of the subjects to be allowed upon re-examination to take only those subjects in which they previously failed.

Mr. HERBERT FISHER

It is not the fact that students at training colleges who fail in some part of their final examination are required to pass again in the whole series of subjects. Students in training colleges who take the Board's examination are required to pass in the examination as a whole and also to pass in each of two groups of subjects separately. Students who fail in the examination as a whole are required to enter for the whole examination again. Students who fail only in one group are only required to enter for re-examination in the group in which they fail. I see no reason to revise the arrangements for the examination in the direction suggested by the hon. Member.
