HC Deb 18 November 1919 vol 121 c395W
MR. GILBERT

asked the Minister of Health if the London County Council are at present constructing any new houses, and, if so, how many; is he aware of the difficulty in obtaining fixed prices from contractors for building new houses; and, in view of this, if his Department will favourably consider allowing municipal authorities to construct new houses themselves by the direct employment of labour?

Dr. ADDISON

The London County Council have commenced two schemes, on which building operations are now in progress, one for the erection of 130 houses at Old Oak Lane, and the second for the building of 260 houses at Norbury. I am prepared to consider proposals for the erection of houses by direct labour where it appears that economy is likely to result.
