HC Deb 17 November 1919 vol 121 c660W
Mr. DOYLE

asked the Postmaster-General whether he proposes to take any steps to publicly acknowledge by medal, certificate, or otherwise, the service rendered to the community by the many women who undertook postal work during the War; and if the women who have been dispensed with will have the first chance of employment during the pressure of Christmas and New Year business?

Mr. PEASE

On the conclusion of hostilities my right hon. Friend published in the Post Office Circular an expression of thanks for the loyal and devoted service rendered by all ranks of the Post Office staff, both permanent and temporary, since the outbreak of war. The additional temporary staff required for this year's Christmas pressure will be recruited as far as possible from discharged soldiers and sailors.
