§ Major WARINGasked the First Lord of the Admiralty if on the 1st April a demobilised officer of the Royal Marines wrote to the Department concerned for payment of his war gratuity; that up to this date he has not received an acknowledgment of his letter; and whether, in view of the importance to officers of the sums of money involved in their gratuities, he will make such arrangements as to ensure replies to officers' letters being given in something less than seven weeks?
§ Dr. MACNAMARAIt is the practice of the Admiralty to forward the necessary form to be completed directly an application for a gratuity is received, and on return of the form completed, steps are taken to pay the gratuity as soon as possible. If my hon. and gallant Friend will give me the name of the officer in question, I will have his case looked into at once.
