HC Deb 04 March 1919 vol 113 cc236-7W
Mr. JOHN DAVISON

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether, in view of the fact that the elections for the Irish county councils take place in June next, and those for the district councils in January next, the Government will introduce legislation for applying to such elections the principle of proportional representation so successfully put into operation at Sligo?

Mr. MACPHERSON

The Irish Government have come to the conclusion that the principle of proportional representation should be extended to all local elections, and a Bill is being drafted to secure this, and it is hoped to pass it through both Houses as early as practicable.
