HC Deb 27 February 1919 vol 112 c1975W
Dr. MURRAY

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether he is aware that many fishermen on returning home from military service have found their nets and fishing gear ruined and their boats badly damaged; and whether the Military Service (Civil Liabilities) Department is empowered to grant compensation to these men in order that they may be able to resume their calling?

Mr. WARDLE

I have been asked to answer this question. I may refer the hon. Member to the reply which was given to the hon. Member for Bermondsey on the 13th instant. The arrangements there mentioned will apply to fishermen who after demobilisation and in the circumstances mentioned in the aforesaid reply are unable to restart their occupation without assistance. The Military Service (Civil Liabilities) Department are giving considerations to applications of this kind, and communications on the subjects should be addressed to them.
