HC Deb 27 February 1919 vol 112 cc1975-6W
Mr. MARRIOTT

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that the delay in the discharge from the Army of master-masons and other pivotal men in the building trade, recommended for immediate discharge by local advisory committees, is both retarding building operations and accentuating unemployment; and whether any steps can be taken to accelerate such discharges?

Mr. WARDLE

The statement in the first part of this question is, I am advised, open to considerable doubt If local advisory committees will bring to my notice the case of any pivotal man duly applied for before the 1st February whose absence is, in their opinion, retarding building operations and accentuating unemployment, steps will be taken to expedite his release.
