HC Deb 27 February 1919 vol 112 cc1999-2000W
Mr. SPOOR

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that a serious shortage of coal for domestic purposes exists at Shildon, county Durham; that the prevalent sickness is much aggravated in consequence of this; if he is further aware that meanwhile large quantities of coal are being sent from local collieries for shipment; and if he will take steps to ensure an adequate supply for local needs?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

No information has been received which would indicate a serious shortage. The outstanding orders unexecuted are only returned at 43 tons, or about two days' trade. Inquiry is being made locally whether any unusual circumstances have arisen.
