DAVIES (Clitheroe)asked the Secretary of State for India whether the "Burma Observer" has had a deposit of Rs. 2,000 forfeited by the Burmese Government and a further deposit of Rs. 5,000 exacted; whether the "Rangoon Mail" has been ordered to furnish a deposit; whether the journal "Knowledge" has had a deposit of Rs. 1,000 forfeited and a further deposit of Rs. 5,000 exacted; if so, in respect of what alleged offence these steps were taken; and whether he will make a full statement concerning the action of the Government in relation to the Burmese Press?
