§ Mr. CASEYasked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that a number of discharged and demobilised ex-Service men are at present temporarily employed at the General Post Office, Sheffield, and who are only being paid at the rate of 1s. 3d. per hour, no matter how many hours they work over the recognised number per day or night, whereas other temporary employés not ex-Service men are receiving eight hours' pay for seven hours' work when on night duty and overtime rates at time and a quarter for the first four hours and time and a half afterwards; and will he issue instructions that the ex-Service men shall be employed under the same conditions as other employés?
§ Mr. PEASEThe facts are as stated. The men referred to, who are engaged for-the Christmas pressure only, are paid at an hourly rate higher than that of the rest of the temporary staff, in order to compensate them for not receiving enhanced rates for overtime and night work.
