HC Deb 03 April 1919 vol 114 c1418W
Viscount WOLMER

asked the Secretary of State for War what difference of regimental pay exists between a combatant lieutenant and a lieutenant and quartermaster, and between a combatant captain or temporary captain and a captain and quartermaster, under Army Order 43, February, 1918, in cases where these officers have less than five years' commissioned service, and the reason for the difference?

Mr. FORSTER

A lieutenant of Infantry draws 11s. 6d. per day, a captain of Infantry 13s. 6d. per day. A quartermaster of Infantry with less than five years' commissioned service draws the rate of 2nd lieutenant of Infantry, namely, 10s. 6d. per day, whatever his rank. The pay of combatant officers and of quartermasters has always been fixed on a different basis, but this question is one which will be considered with others affecting the pay of the officers of the Army as a whole.
