Sir L. HARMSWORTHasked the Secretary for Scotland if he will take steps to require the Scottish banks to inform the next-of-kin of deceased soldiers and sailors within some reasonable period after death of any balances that may be lying to their credit?
§ Mr. MUNROI am not aware that under existing arrangements banks receive any official intimation of either the death of a soldier or sailor or the names of his next-of-kin; and any change in the arrangements would be a matter for the consideration of the War Office or Admiralty, and not for my Department.
