HC Deb 21 March 1918 vol 104 cc1211-2W
Mr. JOWETT

asked the Home Secretary if he is aware of the extent to which people who have profited by the War are penalising those who have not profited by it, not excepting soldiers who are away from their homes serving their country, by buying the houses of other people; and what steps he intends to take to prevent this form of war profiteering?

Mr. HAYES FISHER

I have been asked to reply to this question. I cannot give any figures on the subject, but communications have reached me from a good many localities complaining of the purchase of houses and of the eviction of tenants. A Bill has passed the other House which it is hoped will check the hardship complained of.
