HC Deb 21 March 1918 vol 104 cc1183-4W
Sir J. AGG GARDNER

asked the Prime Minister whether, in view of the demand for light French wines and the difficulties of meeting that demand created by the action of the Liquor Control Board, the Government will instruct the Liquor Control Board to modify its Order respecting the output of these wines, so as to release some of the considerable stocks of light French wines kept in bond in this country, and which can be distributed without interference with the transport of other goods?

Mr. CLYNES

I have been asked to reply. As the hon. Member was informed last Monday by the Home Secretary, the limitations of the amount of wine available for consumption are not consequent on any Order of the Central Control Board (Liquor Traffic), nor is it the fact that there are any considerable stocks of light French wines kept in bond in this country at the present time. Instructions have been recently given which modify the restrictions on the release of these wines and raise the quantity available for consumption to the level of those released in the year 1916.
