HC Deb 14 February 1918 vol 103 cc284-5W
Mr. R. MACDONALD

asked whether, when the Order fixing margarine prices was issued last November, an exemption from it was given for a month to the brand known as "Plate"; why this was done; whether it has led to mistaken prosecutions; and who is the proprietor of this brand?

Mr. CLYNES

Exemption for three weeks from the provisions of the Margarine (Maximum Prices) Order, 1917, was granted to the brand known as "Plate" by reason of the extra expenses which had been incurred in putting margarine of that brand into packets. Mistaken prosecutions did, in some cases, take place, owing to the fact that all the prosecuting authorities had not been informed in time of the granting of this exemption. The proprietors of this brand are Planter's Margarine Company, Limited.
