HC Deb 15 November 1917 vol 99 c592W
Mr. WATT

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office whether he is aware that wool brokers in the South-West of Scotland are paying only 10d. per lb. for unwashed black-faced wool and 11d. for unwashed Cheviot wool, arbitrarily calling the whole output of farmers broken wool; at what prices such wools are taken over by his Department, and who reaps the profit between the farmer and the War Office; and whether he will put an end to this system, which enables the wool brokers to take advantage of the farmers, whilst ascribing the responsibility to the War Office?

Mr. FORSTER

I regret that my inquiries into this matter are not yet complete, but I will communicate with my hon. Friend as soon as I am in a position to do so.
