§ Mr. DORISasked the Chief Secretary for Ireland if the Marquess of Sligo, 1742W H.M.L., the largest landholder in the Westport urban district, has claimed exemption from the tillage Regulations of the Department of Agriculture; what decision the Department have given upon the claim; and what steps the Department are taking to have the Regulations complied with in this district?
§ Mr. DUKEI am informed that the Marquess of Sligo is complying with the tillage Regulations, though at considerable sacrifice of his own pecuniary interests.
§ Mr. REDDYasked the Chief Secretary for Ireland if any of the following landholders in King's County have applied for exemption from the Tillage Order; what exemptions, if any, have been granted; and whether he will take steps to see that the Order is enforced in any of the following cases where it is not being complied with: Bolton J. Waller, Moystown, Banagher, 800 acres; Dr. Sampson, Derry-holmes, 400 acres; and Captain Tarleton, Hunston, Banagher, 500 acres?
§ Mr. DUKEIt is undesirable to publish particulars of persons who have or have not applied for exemption. In all cases of non-compliance with the Regulations the procedure which the Department of Agriculture are empowered to take will be adopted.
§ Mr. F. MEEHANasked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether he is aware that forty uneconomic landholders who have very little arable land petitioned the Agricultural Board to secure conacre plots on the grazing ranch of Mr. Thomas Stuart at Killanumery, Dromahair, county Lei-trim; and whether, having regard to the scarcity of suitable land for tillage in the district and the need of food, the Department will take over this land for tillage purposes?
