HC Deb 21 February 1917 vol 90 c1348W
Mr. BYRNE

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food what steps, if any, will he taken to deal with persons hoarding up foodstuffs or withholding supplies from the market; and if he is aware that persons of the well-to-do classes are by storing up goods raising unnecessarily the prices of foodstuffs to the working classes?

Captain BATHURST

The subject of hoarding foodstuffs is under serious consideration by the Food Controller, who regards any such action as unpatriotic. If particulars of any ease of unreasonably withholding supplies from the markets are furnished to the Ministry of Food they will be at once investigated.
