HC Deb 19 April 1917 vol 92 c1848W
Mr. JOWETT

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Agriculture if he has any recommendation to make or suggestion to offer to men who have undertaken to cultivate an acre of ground in addition to working full time in factories, in order to increase the food supply and who are obliged, at the direction of military service tribunals, to drill with local volunteers, having regard to the fact that it is impossible for a working man to cultivate an acre of land and drill with the volunteers as well after working hours?

Sir R. WINFREY

In such a case, the man should represent the full facts to the tribunal and apply for the variation of his certificate of exemption by the modification of the condition attached to it.
